We’re recruiting a Social Media Officer to join our team. This is a flexible role that includes regular evening and weekend work. 

You’ll work on all aspects of our social channels, from community management to content creation and beyond. With the support of the senior members of the social media team, you’ll deliver on long-term plans that engage diverse audiences and support our ‘Inspire’ strategic goals, using insight and data to for audience-focused campaigns, content and community strategies that deliver measurable impact. 

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience delivering strategic social media activity at a national level. You’ll be confident building relationships with stakeholders across teams, influencing others to make the most of social media, and managing situations that could present reputational risk. 

What it's like to work here

You’ll join the Social Media team within our Communications & Fundraising Directorate, helping to manage the Trust’s national channels, online reputation, and support for regional, property, and specialist accounts. 

Our team of six is based across the UK and works primarily remotely, coming together up to once a month, alongside site visits for training and content creation. 

Social media is a 24/7 environment, and our channels are covered from 8am–8pm, seven days a week. Social Media Officers are required to cover community management shifts within this timeframe. While we offer flexibility, this is not a standard Monday–Friday, 9–5 role.

Your contractual location will be one of our offices in Swindon, Newcastle, Birmingham, Betws y Coed or Norwich and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

With the support of the Senior Social Media Officers, you’ll use insight and data to help deliver high-quality social media content that is led by audience needs and supports our strategic objectives. You’ll manage community engagement, customer service communications and contentious issues, and support our regional and property teams to do the same.

Who we're looking for

  • Strong understanding of online communities and audience engagement
  • Passion for social media and creating impactful, audience-focused content
  • Experience using social media insights and analytics to inform strategy
  • Proven ability to manage brand voice and deliver excellent customer service across channels
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently
  • Collaborative team player who supports, shares knowledge, and builds strong relationships
  • Creative and adaptable, with a willingness to innovate, challenge the status quo, and learn from experience
