Social Media Executive

MK Dons
Department: Communication & Marketing
Salary: £30,000–£32,000 per annum
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (5 days out of 7)

About the Role

MK Dons are looking for a Social Media Executive to manage the Club's day-to-day social media presence across all major platforms.

You will be responsible for planning and publishing content, engaging with supporters in real time, and using performance data and audience insights to continually improve the Club's social media output.

Working closely with Marketing, Media, Commercial, Academy, Women's Team, Community and creative colleagues, you'll help showcase the full breadth of Club and Stadium MK Group activity — from matchday build-up and live coverage to sponsor content, retail, hospitality and community stories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day social media content calendar across Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, LinkedIn and YouTube.
  • Plan and publish content around matchdays, campaigns, player and Club announcements, commercial activity, retail, hospitality, Academy, Women's Team and Community requirements.
  • Balance planned content with reactive opportunities and changing priorities.
  • Coordinate with Marketing, Media, Commercial and creative teams to ensure copy, graphics, photography and video assets are available when required.
  • Produce and publish fast, accurate content during matchdays and other time-critical Club activity.
  • Create engaging copy tailored to different platforms, audiences and formats.
  • Engage professionally with supporters through comments, messages and mentions.
  • Monitor social media trends, platform developments, algorithms and emerging content formats.
  • Analyse social media performance data and use insights to improve future content.
  • Support paid social media activity, including audience targeting, creative testing and performance monitoring.
  • Help deliver social media content for sponsors and commercial partners.
  • Identify opportunities to grow the Club's digital audience, engagement and reach.
  • Work with designers, photographers and video/content colleagues to brief and coordinate creative assets.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations to the Club's wider social media and content strategy.
  • Maintain the Club's tone of voice and brand standards across all public-facing communications.
  • Escalate sensitive, confidential, legal, safeguarding or reputation-related matters when appropriate.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable professional experience managing social media channels, ideally within sport, entertainment, events or another fast-paced consumer-facing environment.
  • Excellent written communication and copywriting skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of X, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.
  • Experience creating and editing quick-turnaround content, including photography and short-form video.
  • Experience using social media scheduling, publishing and analytics tools.
  • Good understanding of social media metrics including reach, engagement, follower growth, video performance and click-through rates.
  • Ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure and meet tight, live deadlines.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage planned and reactive content simultaneously.
  • Sound judgement when dealing with public-facing communications and potentially sensitive issues.
  • Willingness and availability to work matchdays, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Digital Media or a related subject.
  • Experience working within a football club, professional sports organisation, major venue or live-event environment.
  • Photo and video editing experience using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut or equivalent.
  • Experience capturing video using both mobile devices and production-quality cameras.
  • Experience supporting paid social media advertising campaigns.
  • Experience working with CMS websites.
  • Understanding of professional football media conventions, including embargoes, competition requirements and approval processes.
  • Experience producing live social media coverage for sport, events or other fast-moving environments.
  • Experience working with sponsors or commercial partners.
  • Familiarity with social listening, community management and digital reputation management.

Personal Attributes

The successful candidate will be:

  • A natural storyteller with a strong instinct for engaging and shareable content.
  • Able to maintain a distinctive Club tone of voice across different platforms and situations.
  • Highly organised and able to plan ahead while responding quickly to emerging opportunities.
  • Calm and resilient when working under pressure.
  • Collaborative and comfortable working across multiple teams.
  • Proactive, creative and confident in bringing forward new ideas.
  • Detail-oriented, particularly around accuracy, spelling, timing and publicly published information.
  • Passionate about football and fan culture, with an understanding of what supporters want to see and engage with.

Safeguarding & Equality

MK Dons is committed to safeguarding and protecting children, young people and at-risk adults. The successful candidate will be expected to understand and follow all safeguarding policies and report any concerns appropriately.

The post may be subject to an enhanced DBS check and annual self-declarations.

MK Dons is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and expects all employees to support and promote these principles across the organisation.
