About Illuminate Adelaide

Illuminate Adelaide is a celebration of art, light, music, food and technology, shining a light on Adelaide each July as South Australia’s largest major winter event.

The festival welcomes people from all walks of life to experience a program of free and ticketed events featuring local, national and international artists and companies. Illuminate Adelaide takes over the city’s streets, laneways and buildings, encouraging city-wide exploration while driving visitation and embedding creativity and technology into Adelaide during the cooler winter months.

The event is presented by Illuminate Adelaide Foundation Ltd under the curation and leadership of Creative Directors Rachael Azzopardi and Lee Cumberlidge.

The Role

The Marketing Manager will support the Head of Marketing and Communications in planning and delivering Illuminate Adelaide’s marketing campaigns, ensuring key organisational and departmental objectives are achieved.

The role will lead the planning and execution of owned digital and paid channels, including the event website, social media, email marketing, SEO, SEM, paid advertising and content campaigns.

You will also manage and provide leadership to Marketing Coordinators, ensuring deadlines are met and campaign deliverables are delivered on time and within budget.

The role will oversee content strategy and creation, user experience across digital platforms, campaign reporting, event marketing projects, partnership deliverables and support for the publicity team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Marketing and Communications to ensure campaign deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
  • Oversee the execution of marketing campaigns across email, social media, traditional advertising, website, print, outdoor, promotions, activations, signage and wayfinding.
  • Manage and execute the content strategy, including content creation, photography, videography, advertising and copywriting.
  • Coordinate media buying and campaign outputs, including creative briefing, internal approvals and asset delivery.
  • Manage paid digital campaigns across platforms including Meta Business Manager, Google Ads, TikTok and Spotify.
  • Liaise with designers, agencies, media partners, content creators and suppliers to ensure cost-effective and timely campaign delivery.
  • Deliver the email marketing strategy, including writing and sourcing content, building assets and managing the database.
  • Deliver the organic social media strategy, including community management, content creation and management of the content calendar.
  • Lead website content curation, ensuring information is accurate, engaging and up to date.
  • Lead signage and wayfinding planning and delivery.
  • Manage merchandise, staff credentials and uniforms, including stock management.
  • Support the capture, editing and archiving of marketing assets, including photography and video.
  • Provide administrative support to the local and national publicity team, including media kit preparation and media ticket requests.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to broaden and deepen audience engagement.
  • Work with the ticketing department to use customer data and insights to improve the customer experience year on year.
  • Support relationships with ticketing providers and assist with complimentary ticketing approvals.
  • Coordinate cross-promotional activations.
  • Assist with research, data analysis and reporting to develop customer insights and audience profiles.
  • Analyse, track and report on campaign performance and ROI using available technology and systems.
  • Support the Partnerships team to ensure stakeholder deliverables are met and reported on as agreed.
  • Undertake other duties reasonably directed that are consistent with the responsibilities and skills required for the role.

Key Working Relationships

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing Manager will work closely with Illuminate Adelaide’s Co-Founders and Creative Directors, as well as teams across Development, Programming, Production and Ticketing.

The role will also work with external artistic companies, government bodies, sponsors, cultural institutions, suppliers, agencies, content creators and other key stakeholders.

Strong communication and relationship-management skills will be essential when working with external suppliers and partners.

  • Experience delivering email marketing campaigns for brand awareness and eCommerce.
  • Experience using paid digital advertising platforms including Meta Business Manager, Google Ads, Spotify and TikTok.

Desirable Experience

  • Marketing experience within the major events or tourism industry.
  • Experience managing website content and navigation using Umbraco.
  • Experience analysing website traffic using Google Analytics.
  • Understanding of media buying fundamentals and creative briefing.
  • Experience delivering event-specific marketing outputs, including signage, wayfinding, print and event collateral.
  • Strong experience managing organic and paid social media across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok.
  • Experience with Tessitura ticketing systems and processes.
  • Experience using Wordfly and Campaign Monitor for email marketing.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro and Photoshop, for image and video editing.
  • Intermediate graphic design skills, particularly using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
