Department Description

Marketing exists to look after the health of the Channel 4 brand and to sharpen what it stands for, so that it's meaningful and distinctive to our viewers. We create the marketing and brand campaigns — from brand moments to always-on performance and subscription/membership activity — that get people talking, watching and joining Channel 4, driving fame, consideration and growth across every platform.

Job Purpose

You'll own end-to-end marketing for your genre — from insight and planning through to campaign execution, performance tracking and optimisation — building deep genre expertise across audiences, insights, tactics and the competitive landscape, and partnering closely with the Head of Strategy and Commissioning to shape what Channel 4 will be famous for within it.

You'll lead flawless, fully integrated marketing campaigns that bring ideas to life across the full marketing mix, setting clear KPIs for every show and tracking, course-correcting and optimising against them — acting as the expert on your genre's performance in partnership with Commissioning, Content and Insights. You'll work closely with your fellow Head of Marketing to finesse ways of working across all our partner teams — OMD, 4Studio, 4Creative, Content Communications, Commissioning and Performance Marketing, Partnerships and 4+ — making collaboration slicker and more joined-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and own deep expertise in your genre — audiences, insights, tactics and the competitive landscape, including regular competitor deep-dives — working closely with the Head of Strategy and Commissioning to shape priorities and ensure Channel 4 content in this genre lands distinctively.
  • Act as the day-to-day relationship owner with Commissioning for your genre, translating priority calls into clear, actionable marketing plans.
  • Own the development of flawless, fully integrated 360 marketing campaigns — bringing ideas to life across the full marketing mix — working with 4Creative, 4Studio, OMD and Content Communications to deliver creatively ambitious, effective work.
  • Set clear KPIs for every show, tracking performance closely, assessing effectiveness and course-correcting in-flight, and acting as the expert on your genre's performance in partnership with Commissioning, Content and Insights.
  • Stay agile post-transmission, continuing to track and evolve marketing initiatives to maximise impact.
  • Partner closely with your fellow Head of Marketing to finesse ways of working across all partner teams — OMD, 4Studio, 4Creative, Content Communications, Commissioning and Performance Marketing, Partnerships and 4+ — making collaboration slicker and more joined-up.
  • Feed genre-level priorities, opportunities and risks into the wider annual marketing plan, working closely with the Marketing Director.
  • Build and lead a high-performing genre marketing team, developing capability and providing coaching.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • 10+ years' experience in a marketing leadership role, ideally within broadcast, streaming or entertainment.
  • A strategic thinker, able to set the longer-term direction for your genre while staying quick to react to real-time moments and cultural conversation.
  • Genuine passion for content within your genre — someone who loves the genre and is driven to make Altogether Different work within it.
  • An insight-led marketer, able to spot the deeper meaning behind viewer research and translate it into sharp, agency-ready briefs.
  • Significant experience delivering full 360 campaigns, integrated across the full marketing mix.
  • Proven experience setting and tracking KPIs for content or campaigns, and using performance data to course-correct and optimise.
  • Experience partnering with media agencies (e.g. OMD) on integrated campaign delivery.
  • Creatively ambitious, with the ability to get the best out of 4Creative and other partner agencies.
  • Innovative with media choices, unafraid to push boundaries in how campaigns reach audiences.
  • A decisive operator who can take insight to action, and strategic plans to delivery.
  • A strong relationship-builder, particularly with Commissioning and cross-functional partner teams.
  • Track record of building and leading high-performing teams, with a genuine passion for people development.

Desirable Experience & Skills

  • Senior-level experience marketing within the relevant genre (Unscripted).

Basic salary per annum starting from: £77,219
