Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra

Digital Coordinator

Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra Hybrid (Hobart, Tasmania, Australia) Part-time 2 hours ago
Marketing

$71,200 - $71,200 AUD yearly

Our organisation

The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) is one of Australia’s leading performing arts companies and part of the DNA of cultural life in Lutruwita / Tasmania – we have been inspiring, invigorating, and entertaining audiences through music for over 75 years. We are recognised across the island and throughout the world for our distinctive artistic identity that is forged from our people and our place.

Our values

In 2021, the TSO embarked on a bold employee-led project to identify and finalise the new organisational values that will guide our strategy, decisions, and behaviour over the next ten years. From consultation with nearly 100 members of the TSO cohort, three clear and agreed values emerged: connection, artistry, and integrity. We commit to uphold these values in everything we do.

Our home

The TSO is inherently influenced and inspired by its home in Lutruwita / Tasmania. The natural landscape and thriving cultural life of our island make it an inspiring and sought-after location to live and work. Our main performance venue, rehearsal studio, and office are co-located on the Hobart waterfront, and musicians and staff alike value the community spirit and work-life integration that a small but vibrant capital city like Hobart provides. We regularly tour to the many unique and vibrant towns across the island – we’ve made music, and connected with music-lovers, in pubs, community halls, schools, parks, churches, and even airport hangars.

Our people

The TSO community (musicians, staff, board, chorus, and supporters alike) are enterprising, curious, collaborative, and committed. United by a love of music and with a strong esprit de corps, employees are empowered to bring new and bold ideas to the table. We actively strive to maintain a workplace that is welcoming, inclusive, and safe for all.

About the opportunity

This is a part-time role with a fair degree of flexibility – no previous knowledge of orchestras required!

Content Capture and Creation

  • Create engaging photo and video content, largely but not solely for socials and email, using an iPhone and other lightweight production tools for a variety of TSO purposes and departments.

  • Own the day-to-day delivery and development of TSO’s organic social channels.
  • Proactively identify content opportunities across concerts, rehearsals, education activity, musicians, artists and the broader work of TSO.
  • Assess ideas from across TSO and shape suitable opportunities into engaging, channel-appropriate content.
  • Develop social concepts, write copy, capture and edit content, and publish across relevant platforms.

Email Marketing

  • Own the production and delivery of TSO email marketing (typically 3 - 5 eDMs per week).
  • Write, edit and proof email copy, working with colleagues or writers as required.
  • Build, test, QA and deploy campaigns in WordFly.
  • Coordinate audience, segmentation and campaign inputs with relevant colleagues.

Digital Operations and Campaign Delivery

  • Manage day-to-day digital workflow through Airtable and other relevant systems, maintaining schedules and progressing agreed activity to deadline.
  • Coordinate required inputs, assets, approvals, links and information from across TSO.
  • Undertake campaign setup and implementation across owned digital channels.

  • Apply strong attention to detail across copy, assets, links, tracking, formatting, scheduling and digital QA.
  • Use performance data, audience behaviour and platform learnings to improve execution and identify useful opportunities and tests.
  • Work collaboratively while operating with a high degree of autonomy; proactively resolve routine issues and escalate strategic or material matters.

  • Maintain productive and respectful relationships across all areas of the TSO
  • Role model and operate within the agreed TSO values (Connection, Artistry, Integrity) and associated agreed shared behaviours
  • Read, understand, and comply with all TSO policies, procedures and reasonable directions
  • Contribute effectively towards the TSO’s mission and strategy
  • Willingly participate in the TSO’s Performance Feedback process and TSO’s training and development programs as required
  • Acknowledge that this position description describes the broad scope of the role and is not an exhaustive list. It may also change from time to time with due consultation to meet the changing needs of the business.

Selection Criteria

When recruiting for this role, we will be looking for digital nous, a creative and positive attitude, and an accountable and organised work ethic – if you think you’d be a good fit and can meet the essential criteria (even if you haven’t worked in the arts before, or if some of TSO’s tools would be new to you, or because a handful of the duties would be new for you), we still want to hear from you.

Essential

  • Hands-on digital content experience: Demonstrated experience creating engaging digital and social content, including filming, editing and publishing content for social platforms.
  • Email marketing and digital copywriting: Experience writing, editing, building and delivering email campaigns, with strong writing skills and the ability to adapt copy across email, social and digital channels while maintaining brand voice.

  • Digital systems confidence: Confident learning and working across email marketing, design, analytics, social publishing and workflow platforms, with strong attention to detail across content, assets, links, formatting, scheduling, campaign setup and QA.
  • Organisation and prioritisation: Able to manage multiple concurrent campaigns, content requirements and deadlines, prioritise effectively and deliver work reliably in a busy performing arts environment.
  • Performance, collaboration and autonomous delivery: Able to interpret digital performance data and apply learnings, build productive relationships with musicians, artists, colleagues and suppliers, and progress work independently by resolving routine blockers and seeking required information.
  • Flexibility: Willing and able to undertake occasional evening and weekend work associated with concert and event coverage.

Desirable

  • Experience using Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, WordFly, Webflow, Airtable, Google Analytics 4, Statusbrew or comparable platforms.
  • Experience working within an arts, entertainment, events, cultural or similarly fast-moving organisation.
  • Familiarity with basic digital campaign tracking and UTM conventions.
  • Interest in classical music, live performance or the arts.

Existing knowledge of TSO-specific systems is not required where a candidate can demonstrate an ability to learn comparable platforms quickly.

Inherent Requirements of the Role

This role includes a combination of physical, environmental, and interpersonal demands, including:

  • Working across different venues and backstage environments, with frequent movement, periods of standing, and occasional lifting or transporting of items when capturing content
  • Exposure to dynamic sensory environments, including low lighting, loud sound, and busy backstage or performance settings
  • Irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with periods of high activity on occasion
  • Managing multiple tasks, shifting priorities, and detailed logistical coordination
  • Significant time working on a computer at a desk (dual monitor, sit-stand workstation provided)
