Community Lead (UK)

What is Ko-fi?

Ko-fi is the go-to service for indie creators (artists, podcasters, bloggers) to make an income doing what they love.

Ko-fi helps thousands of independent creators turn their passion into income.

We've been around since 2011, and today our team of 20 stays true to our mission: helping creators earn a living from their passions.

Benefits

Work mostly remotely (if you want). We meet once a week in Cambridge, and the rest is up to you. If you want to work from a co-working space, we'll cover that too.

Competitive compensation. The salary range for this role is £36,000 - £48,000, depending on experience.

Bonus scheme. Performance and company-based bonuses when we do well.

Paid leave. 25 days + National Holidays paid time off.

Wellness allowance. Monthly allowance to spend on physical and mental health activities.

Team socials. We come together throughout the year, including summer and winter celebrations, to relax and enjoy time as a team.

Matched pension. Minimum 5%, matched up to 10% of salary.

Personal development budget. We'll invest in you with an annual training allowance.

Share options. Opportunity to earn share options after 6 months and take part in what we're building together.

Your work will be seen by millions. Do the best work of your life and have it seen by creators and supporters globally.

Purpose of the role

At Ko-fi, our community is our heartbeat, and creators are at the centre of everything we do. In this role, you'll lead how we show up for creators - through social content, video, and community projects that will help them grow.

You'll be their champion: the voice of the community and advocating for them internally, and the face of Ko-fi to creators all over the world.

Things you'll do

As Community Lead, you're the driving force behind how Ko-fi shows up for creators. Here's a glimpse into what you'll do:

  • Lead our social strategy, with video at the heart: Working with creators and our design team, you'll bring creator’s stories to life and shape where Ko-fi shows up on social.
  • Spot and lead new community projects: Beyond social, you'll identify opportunities that help creators grow their audiences and earnings. Taking them from idea to delivery, and bringing in other teams where needed.
  • Write in a voice that's unmistakably Ko-fi: From a punchy social caption to a new feature announcement, you'll create content that's on-brand, friendly and creator-first..
  • Keep your finger on the pulse of creators: You'll follow what creators are talking about and what's happening across the creator economy, using these insights to help shape what we do next.
  • Let data guide you: You'll set goals for your projects, track what's working, and use the results to decide what to try next.

What we're looking for

We're looking for a Community Lead based in the UK*, with 3+ years experience running social strategy or community projects at a tech or product-led company.

Here's what makes you a strong fit:

Curious and experimental: You're not looking to repeat what's been done before. You notice what's missing, try new approaches, and aren't afraid to test an idea that might not work.

Independent and excited to lead: You're energised by the idea of owning an area and shaping its direction, driving projects forward on your own initiative as well as collaborating with the wider team.

A strong and versatile writer: You can write copy that sounds like Ko-fi across formats, from a punchy caption to a video script.

A confident, adaptable communicator: Whether you're talking to a creator, external contractors, or the team internally, you know how to read the room and adjust your tone and approach accordingly.

Comfortable with data: You can interpret results and use them to make decisions about what to prioritise next, not just report on what happened.

*You'll need to travel to our Cambridge office at least once a month - travel and accommodation costs are covered.

Extra credit:

While not essential, these are the kinds of things that could make you shine even brighter:

  • Experience working with creators or influencers
  • Previous experience working in a start-up, and comfortable with a fast-paced environment
  • Experience briefing or commissioning video content, working with creators or a design/production team
  • Some understanding or experience of using Discord for community spaces
  • A creative flair that helps you think differently and communicate clearly
