Role overview

The Communications and Impact Assistant will provide essential support to the day-to-day operations of the communications and impact functions. The role involves helping the Communications Manager to deliver clear, engaging external communications across all channels, and ensure the organisation's data collection and impact measurement systems are maintained to a high standard. You will manage digital media archives, create digital content for social media and promotional materials, and support in planning and delivery of organisational events. Working closely with internal teams, you will assist the Communication Manager to ensure that impact is measured across our services and communications output aligns with our mission, values, and brand standards.

Key responsibilities

You will assist the Communications Manager in keeping our communications and impact functions operating efficiently and effectively. You will ensure that digital and written content, social media schedules, and administrative tasks are managed to a high standard. Reporting to the Communications Manager and working closely with the Grant Writer, Social Media Officers, and Service Managers, you will provide practical hands-on support and technical assistance, as required.

Communications - assist the Communications Manager to:

  • Deliver our communications plan across multiple platforms, including print, digital & social media
  • Develop and deliver on ideas for creative marketing campaigns to promote our services
  • Deliver on delegated communications across our services, including childcare, youth work, fitness & community spaces
  • Research, analyse data to identify/define audiences/stakeholders & the means to communicate to them
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate event communications
  • Prepare, edit, and distribute internal and external communications materials, including newsletters, promotional materials, reports, etc
  • Create social media content in line with our social media strategy
  • Maintain our organisational website, regularly update content, and monitor data analytics
  • Maintain digital media archives (including photos and videos), ensuring all public-facing content accurately represents our brand and messaging

Impact - assist the Communications Manager to:

  • Gather information, feedback, and statistics from staff, volunteers, and service users
  • Support the development and maintenance of systems, surveys and frameworks used to measure whether services are meeting their goals
  • Support the preparation and dissemination of quarterly and annual impact reports
  • Provide data and evidence for funding bids and donor reports
  • Generate content and materials for grant applications and partner presentations in collaboration with the Grant Writer
  • Compile data and metrics on digital engagement for reporting to the Senior Management Team

Required experience & skills

The post requires practical knowledge in digital communications, social media platforms, data collection and impact measurement. The role will contribute to the day-to-day effectiveness of the organisation's communications and impact activities in accordance with YMCA Dublin's strategic goals, communications strategy and organisational standards.

Essential criteria

  • A relevant third-level qualification (Level 7 degree minimum), or equivalent practical experience in communications, marketing, public relations or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience in a communications, digital media, or public relations administration role
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to tailor messages for diverse target audiences
  • Demonstrated experience with social media platforms, content creation tools, and social media analytics/reporting
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working or volunteering within the non-profit or voluntary sector
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop) and email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp)
  • Proven research skills and attention to detail in data collection and impact measurement
