About the Role
The Communications & Content Officer will be responsible for delivering the Scottish Women’s Premier League’s communications and content activity, helping to enhance the league’s profile and reputation through media relations, digital content, stakeholder engagement, and support for commercial and broadcast partnerships.
The role will play a key part in promoting the SWPL brand, growing audiences and supporting the continued development of women’s football in Scotland.
Key Responsibilities
Content Management
- Develop and maintain the SWPL’s communications channels and content materials.
- Create and distribute public relations materials, including press releases, website copy, news articles and promotional materials.
- Manage the SWPL’s social media accounts.
- Create and deliver consistent, high-quality social media and website content, including graphics and templates to promote SWPL competitions.
- Plan and execute relevant campaigns across SWPL competitions.
- Support the activation of commercial agreements with sponsors and partners.
- Ensure SWPL and sponsor/partner brand guidelines are consistently followed across all content and channels, including those of the 20 SWPL clubs.
Communications & Outreach
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with media contacts.
- Manage media enquiries, press requests and media coverage.
- Monitor media coverage and social media activity.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with external communications stakeholders, including website partners, PR agencies, freelance content creators, designers, photographers, videographers and specialist suppliers.
- Coordinate communications, marketing and social media activity, including activity delivered with external partners, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives, brand standards and key messages.
- Act as the primary point of contact for external agencies and suppliers, managing briefs, timelines and deliverables.
- Coordinate the promotion and communications around key SWPL events and activities, including:
- Season Launch Event
- Player of the Month Awards
- Goal of the Month Awards
- League Cup Draws
- Cup Semi-Finals and Finals and associated press conferences
- Trophy Presentations
- Media Events
- General and competition updates for stakeholders and the wider public
- Fan engagement and matchday activities
- Other events and communications as required
Planning & Analysis
- Support the creation of annual content and communications plans for SWPL competitions.
- Develop consistent imagery, design and messaging across communications activity.
- Analyse media coverage and campaign performance to measure the impact of communications activity and identify areas for improvement.
- Produce monthly metrics and reports for the Head of Operations & Partnerships and Managing Director, covering content, engagement and reach.
- Use performance insights to support decision-making around marketing and sponsorship plans.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Experience
- At least two years’ experience in a similar communications, content, marketing or social media role.
- Experience within the sports industry is beneficial but not essential.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident communicating and building relationships with a range of stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
- Ability to create online graphics and templates to promote SWPL competitions.
- Understanding of website content management platforms.
- Excellent knowledge of social media platforms and how to measure their effectiveness.
- Knowledge and understanding of women’s football.
- Excellent administration and organisational skills.
