We are looking for Spiracle Audiobook’s Head of Growth to be at the forefront of our team. They will join us at an exciting time when there is everything to play for in what is the fastest growing sector of the publishing industry: audiobooks are an increasingly popular medium for reading.

We need an experienced Growth Marketer to take the lead when it comes to customer acquisition, retention and brand partnerships.

The Head of Growth will coordinate with the team to build tests and experiments across a variety of channels and platforms to build awareness around Spiracle and, ultimately, drive revenue and new user growth.

The right person will embrace the challenges of this early stage, growing business; be naturally clear and efficient where there is less structure and much resourcefulness required.

S/he will be expected to build out a team to help support acquisition efforts with experience on the right specialisms needed to hit ambitious growth targets.

About Spiracle

Spiracle is an innovative audiobook enterprise based in the UK, accessible via web and mobile app.

Established in 2022, our core mission is to publish and distribute distinctive, independently published books in audiobook format.

Our broader aim is to narrow the expanding gap between book enthusiasts and high-quality literature in audiobook form. We achieve this by offering a comprehensive, expertly curated selection of literary audiobooks from both small and large publishers.

In addition to our main offerings, we commission, produce, and compile supplementary content – including articles, podcasts, and events – through the Murmurations portal on the Spiracle site. This initiative extends our reach and enhances the connections to, and understanding of, the audiobooks we offer.

Helen Boaden, former Head of Radio at the BBC and an avid audiobook listener, was an early subscriber to Spiracle. Our clientele includes those seeking alternatives in the audiobook market. This includes both seasoned audiobook listeners and newcomers to the format. Feedback indicates that our dedication to curation and independence is highly valued.

The Spiracle team is led by Kate Bland, Boban Tanovic, Leigh Wilson, and Quentin Ellis.

We have achieved good press coverage as a newcomer to the market and now it’s time to get serious; to scale our subscriptions, improve our user experience and make Spiracle audiobooks a bustling haven for literary enthusiasts.

What will you do?

  • Oversee and execute growth campaigns that work towards ambitious acquisition goals.
  • Nurture fruitful partnerships with brands, suppliers and the wider literary community.
  • Build a team of specialists and freelancers that work together to build a cohesive marketing and growth strategy.
  • Oversee all content on the Spiracle website and socials, ensuring all output is on- brand and relevant.
  • Be totally channel agnostic and willing to experiment with a range of strategies from SEO, Social, Paid Media, Content Marketing, Partnerships, Influencer Marketing and more to unlock a channel mix that is effective for Spiracle.
  • Take ownership over the website, ensuring user experience is continuously optimised and meets best practices.

Requirements

  • Experience in a leadership position at a high-growth start-up or scale-up.
  • An understanding of both web and mobile marketing.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to make effective hiring decisions.
  • Experience with web and mobile analytics (GA4, MMPs)
  • Hands-on experience with Meta and Google Ads, SEO and organic social.
  • Ability to communicate effectively internally as well as with suppliers, freelancers and partners.
  • A data-driven mindset with a splash of creativity.
  • Ability to work with decisiveness, empathy and integrity.

Payment and location

This is a full time position. We are looking for someone who will take on this challenge and see the company grow, alongside their role, their salary and their shareholding in Spiracle. It is not for the faint hearted – we need a talented, passionate, motivated, ambitious, clever and practical person to join our team and lead this vital sector of the business.

  • Salary is £50,000 – £60,000 p.a. + bonuses (depending on experience)
  • Flexible working arrangements office/ home working with at least 2 full days working together in the office.
