Applications are invited for the full-time ongoing role of Digital Engagement & Media Officer in the Office of Kate Thwaites MP, based in the Member’s Electorate Office in Heidelberg, VIC.

This role will be responsible for the management of the Member’s social media accounts, media content and digital engagement, as well as supporting broader community and stakeholder engagement activities such as events.

The key duties of the position are, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the Member’s social media accounts, including creating engaging content, managing content moderation, and strategic growth.
  • Promoting the Member’s work through a range of media and communications content, including liaising with journalists.
  • Providing advice on media opportunities and digital engagement.
  • Supporting community engagement activities and event coordination.
  • Occasional travel within the electorate and to Canberra for parliamentary sitting periods may be required in this role.
  • Work outside of standard business hours and on weekends may be required.
  • Other reasonable duties as directed, including responding to constituent enquiries and supporting the Electorate Office’s work.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in digital media, journalism and/or communications.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a small team, often with tight deadlines.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to coordinate plans and activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Graphic design and photography skills with a demonstrated ability to develop content in line with a brief or messaging guide. Familiarity with a range of graphic design and video editing tools, including the Adobe Suite, is an advantage.
  • A well-developed understanding of political issues that are important to the Jagajaga electorate, the Government’s objectives, and the broader parliamentary landscape.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-23 which include:

  • A commencing salary between $71,245 and $83,179 will be negotiated depending on relevant skills and experience.
  • An additional optional allowance of up to $8,605 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
  • An employer contribution of 15.4% superannuation will be payable.

An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.

The successful applicant will be required to comply with the relevant Draft Behaviour Standards and Codes endorsed by both Houses of Parliament and may be required to undergo a National Police History check.
