Sam’s Social Media Club is helping Independent Dance find a Digital Communications Assistant.

The Digital Communications Assistant supports the marketing of ID’s year-round
programme, maintains our online presence, and supports the delivery of our digital
programme. The role is therefore key to how ID hosts its public activity in an
engaging, fair, friendly and caring way.

This role is likely to be suitable for someone with some experience of marketing work
in the arts, as a freelancer and/or within organisations, and a strong interest in
communications. It offers scope for growth; ID is committed to supporting a spirit of
learning ‘on the job’ and to enabling all staff to develop in their roles. The Digital
Communications Assistant is supported in their role by our Programme Coordinator
(0.8) and Co-Director (0.8).

Key responsibilities

Communications

o Act as a first point of contact for artists, participants and other members of the public,
in person and on email, alongside Programme Coordinator
o Manage ID’s online presence and promote our year-round public programme through populating and maintaining social media accounts, website and listings in line with our communications strategy
o Develop relationships with other organisations to deliver reciprocal marketing campaigns
o Support the compilation and design of email newsletters
o Maintain listings and subscription databases
o Support technical hosting of our online and hybrid programme
o Support maintenance of our online booking system
o Update website with accurate content on a weekly basis
o Liaise with our external website support on site upgrades Evaluation
o Gather data through tools such as Plausible Analytics and store data in line with GDPR regulations
o Collate, report and act on data from social media accounts and online booking patterns
o Contribute digital statistics to support reporting to funders and The Charity Commission

General

o Encourage collaborative and positive team-working
o Participate in organisational activity, attend weekly team meetings, training opportunities,
evaluation and development discussions
o Actively implement the organisation’s policies including commitments to equity and inclusion and environmental responsibility
o Support an effective flow of communication throughout the organisation
o Be responsible for own administration including filing
o Collaborate with and support the rest of the team including the Programme Coordinator
and the Co-Directors in their duties

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

o Ability to work in a trusting and collaborative way as part of a small, busy and motivated team
o Active commitment to the principles of equal opportunity, inclusion and environmental
responsibility
o Interest in Independent Dance’s work and/or in dance and other artforms
o Enjoys both in-person and online communication with a wide range of people
o Strong written and verbal communication skills
o Experience of delivering social media marketing campaigns
o Good knowledge of social media platforms and scheduling apps
o An aptitude for consistency, accuracy, and attention to detail
o An eye for visual design and understanding of branding
o Experience of website updating

Desirable

o Knowledge of the UK dance field, from a freelance and/or organisational perspective
o Interest in marketing strategies and keenness to develop knowledge in this area
o Experience of writing and editing copy for publicity purposes
o Experience of data-gathering for evaluation purposes
o Knowledge of Wordpress, Adobe Photoshop, Campaign Monitor

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Job Title: Digital Communications Assistant
Contract: 1-year fixed term running February 2024 – January 2025 (with potential to extend)

Salary: £25,000 per annum at 2 days a week pro rata (0.4) which equates to £10,000 per year

Working Hours: This is a 0.4 post which equates to 16 hours per week including a lunchbreak. Usually office hours are 10am – 6pm. A regular working pattern is necessary given the frequency of public events hosted by ID and in order to interact with the team. Very occasional evening and weekend working may be required due to the nature of this role.
ID operates a Time Off in Lieu policy for time worked beyond the contracted amount.
Flexible working arrangements can be considered.

Location: Regular place of work is Independent Dance’s shared office at
Siobhan Davies Studios (SDS), 85 St George’s Road, London, SE1 6ER. For

Holidays: 11.2 days of annual leave per year (28 days pro-rata at 0.4). ID closes
for two weeks over Christmas, which is offered in addition to holiday entitlement.
After two years of service, additional holiday entitlement accrues at a rate of one
day per year up to a total of 30 days per year (Full-time equivalent).

Probation period: 3 months

Notice period: 1 month following probation period

Workplace Pension Scheme: In accordance with auto-enrolment, Independent
Dance contributes pension through NEST for all eligible employees. Our employer
pension contribution is 3% and an employee contribution of 5% (less tax relief) is
also required.
