Organizational Setting

The Director General’s Office (DGO) provides leadership and coordination for all IAEA activities at the executive level for meeting Member States’ needs, and achieving a one-house approach and a results-based management.The Office for Public Information and Communication provides objective, accurate and timely information about the IAEA and nuclear developments that fosters public understanding of the IAEA’s global roles. It also provides advice to the Director General on relations with the media and organizes press briefings. The Office coordinates the communication activities for the rest of the house and assists in the media aspects of major IAEA events and conferences.The Web, Digital Media and Public Information Materials Section has corporate responsibility for the editorial management, creation and development of information products with a particular focus on the web, digital media, internal communications and cross-departmental promotional material.

 

Main Purpose

Reporting directly to the Section Head, the Associate Social Media Officer assists in researching, writing and editing information products for the IAEA’s social media channels, as well as the web site and print products, and contributes to increasing the audience of the IAEA in social media channels through on-line marketing. He/she implements the marketing strategy to increase audiences and ensures that the relevant information is included and promoted via the social media channels of the IAEA. He/she keeps tracks of trends and usage of social media channels by analyzing social metrics and makes recommendations on increasing IAEA visibility based on these metrics.

 

Role

The Associate Social Media Officer is (1) a social media marketing specialist, providing ideas and recommendations on how to increase the presence of the IAEA on social media and positioning it on the most appropriate channels; (2) a substantive contributor, providing editorial and production support to enable the efficient and accurate publishing of outreach information on the IAEA’s programs and activities, particularly on social media channels; (3) an editor assuring that public information content is accurate and complies with the editorial style guide.

 

Functions / Key Results Expected

• Maintain the IAEA corporate social media channels, draft and publish posts on a regular basis and produce and develop stories, features and other outreach material for use in social media, the web site and print.
• Contribute to the development of a social media marketing plan and implement the approved plan.
• Draft web articles, and information intended for distribution via social media channels in easy-to-understand language and style for a non-specialist audience.
• Conceptualize and create illustrations and infographics for use on the IAEA social media channels.
• Serve as a sub-editor to assigned IAEA public information materials as well as to designated pages/sections of the IAEA’s website.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • University degree in journalism or related field.
  • Ability to use graphic design, including appropriate software tools, to communicate complex concepts to general audiences is an asset.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in marketing, journalism, social media, public affairs or related field.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

 

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $50377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 23325*, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; Other benefits include 6 weeks’ annual leave, home leave travel, pension plan and health insurance.   • Staff members may be assigned to any location.
  • Candidates appointed to posts in the Professional and higher categories are subject to IAEA rotation policy and their maximum tour of service shall normally be seven years.
