The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is in search of an accomplished professional for the role of Senior Director, Professional Engagement Marketing. Professional audiences at the ADA include roles such as clinicians, researchers, educators, community health workers and early career professionals, to name a few.

Tasked with leading the charge to expand ADA’s professional marketing, this crucial position focuses on enhancing engagement with a diverse professional community, including scientific researchers, diabetes care specialists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals. Reporting to the Vice President of Constituent Engagement within the Marketing & Communications Division, the Senior Director will craft and execute strategies to drive professional membership acquisition and growth and increase engagement with ADA professional programs and publications. Through strategic planning, market analysis, and collaboration with internal and external partners, the role aims to elevate ADA’s programmatic initiatives, drive revenue, and enhance the user experience for professional members. This is an opportunity to lead with impact, championing innovative solutions that advance ADA’s goals and contribute significantly to the diabetes community.

This is a full-time remote position, and the candidate must be comfortable managing staff in a virtual team environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • P&L Responsibility. Accountable for revenue associated with professional membership and journal subscriptions, inclusive of industry-leading Diabetes, Diabetes Care, Diabetes Spectrum and Clinical Diabetes.
  • Professional Membership Growth Strategy. Lead the development and execution of an integrated strategy for professional acquisition, cultivation, and retention to expand professional membership, event registration, and overall engagement. This includes managing individual and institutional subscriptions to ADA professional publications, with a focus on maximizing long-term revenue and professional engagement opportunities.
  • Professional Journals Growth Strategy. Oversee the acquisition, retention, and onboarding efforts for professional memberships and journal subscriptions (both individual and institutional), regularly reviewing pricing and reporting on metrics. Monitor the user experience journey for institutional subscribers, institutional administrators, and individual subscribers, from the purchase of subscriptions to accessing paywalled content.
  • Professional Event Marketing. Promote professional events (inclusive of our annual Clinical Update Conference and Scientific Sessions) through targeted channels, collaborate with Event Ops team to ensure seamless on-site operation.
  • Value Proposition and Constituent Engagement. Develop and communicate compelling value propositions, promotional content, and calls to action to engage ADA’s professional audiences. Drive involvement in ADA programmatic initiatives and publications, resulting in increased awareness of ADA’s mission, priorities, and professional development opportunities. Plan, organize, and manage membership engagement at ADA’s annual Scientific Sessions.
  • Strategic Planning and Market Analysis. Lead the development and communication of strategic growth plans, assessing market trends to define marketing objectives, goals, relevant metrics, and reporting methods. Manage and report on membership- and subscription-related revenue, ensuring alignment with ADA’s Marketing & Communications initiatives.
  • Performance Analysis and Reporting. Regularly analyze, evaluate, and report on member acquisition and retention campaigns in relation to budget and membership goals. Develop and guide marketing campaigns based on persona insights and targeted audiences, testing innovative promotions, and adjusting strategies based on performance metrics and market trends.
  • Partnership and Resource Management. Oversee and manage collaborations with internal and external partners, including digital media agencies, CRM platforms, email and SMS campaign partners, and subscription agencies. Work with internal staff to foster a culture of superior customer service to prospective and current members, individual and institutional subscribers, and agency partners. Ensure that partnerships drive revenue, professional constituent growth, and engagement in alignment with ADA’s mission and financial goals.
  • Team Leadership and Collaboration. Lead a dedicated team and collaborate with staff across ADA to achieve mission goals. Work closely with key divisions to identify new member benefits and opportunities for engagement, and support and consult with ADA’s Membership Advisory Group and Professional Interest Groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field
  • 10+ years of with membership operations, budget oversight, and subscription management
  • Proven experience with guiding email, direct mail, social media, and advertising campaigns
  • Familiarity with association management systems and technology platforms, such as customer relationship management, subscription management systems, and analytics platforms
  • Familiarity with institutional subscription reporting, metrics, and tools.
  • Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Health care experience preferred.
