Job Title:-        Head of Marketing & Events

Primary Job Purpose

  • To support the Engagement Director in developing marketing, brand and PR solutions aligned with the delivery of the British Safety Council business plan across all product verticals, with specific responsibility for the commercial performance of business through BSC websites. This will be delivered through the development, management and implementation of integrated marketing and communications plans, as well as an integrated approach with Sales, ensuring relevant opportunities are maximised for British Safety Council.
  • To support the Awards and Events Manager in the delivery of an annual programme of events (live and virtual) which reflect and support the delivery of the British Safety Council business plan.

Brief Description of Tasks

  • Drive the development and implementation of integrated, multi-channel, joined up, marketing, PR and event plans for British Safety Council aligned with business strategies and plans, using both internal and external stakeholders and resources.
  • Enable the business to exceed commercial targets, through agreed efficiency levels, specifically maximising the commercial performance of BSC websites, working in an integrated way with Sales to ensure a joined-up approach.
  • Work with the Awards and Events Manager, Wellbeing Director, Director of Education & Membership and Head of Audit and Consultancy to drive the delivery of an annual programme of events (live and virtual) which reflect and support the objectives and long-term strategy of British Safety Council and builds on the relationships with our current clients and members as well as the wider public. Events include but are not limited to the following: Member / public webinars, gala awards dinners, awards luncheons, awards presentation ceremonies, conferences including international events, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, sector interest group meetings, and trade visits.
  • Ensure a joined-up approach between awards and award events.
  • Support and manage the performance of the marketing and events team, developing their skills in all relevant disciplines.
  • Working with the marketing and event managers, manage the relevant marketing and events budget, providing reporting and reforecasting as required.
  • Speak positively and enthusiastically about the organisation and its products and services to ensure that a professional organisation and brand image is always provided to members, customers, stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Work with the Head of Policy & Communications to ensure a joined up marketing and media relations strategy, in support of BSC product strategies.
  • Drive the implementation of all marketing and events to agreed targets and KPIs, producing appropriate reporting for activities and initiatives.
  • Drive the delivery of the lead management and nurturing process for all marketing and events.
  • Within the marketing database, develop and manage data cleaning, maintenance and intelligence procedures.
  • Working with the Engagement Director, oversee the positioning of BSC’s brand image and identity.
  • Oversee all aspects of the design, production and distribution of product and event collateral and branded materials, ensuring a consistent overall corporate look and feel.
  • Drive the robust gathering of marketing intelligence through the evaluation of customer intelligence, market conditions and competitor data, to inform the marketing and event strategy.
  • Develop and maintain professional internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Ensure external suppliers are managed to ensure the delivery of a quality and cost-effective service, negotiating best value for money delivery on all work undertaken.

    Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in business administration, marketing or events related subject
  • Must have an understanding of data management processes
  • Good knowledge of event management.
  • Experienced in the use of CRM platforms
  • Experienced in the use of a marketing automation platform and lead generation activities
  • Must be able to demonstrate a wide range of technical marketing skills across the total mix
  • Must have a strong understanding of customer segmentation and market dynamics
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills with a strong attention to detail required
  • Strong people management skills including the ability to mentor others
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills with a proven track record of leadership that delivers business results
  • Strong written, verbal communication and proof reading skills
  • Excellent written communications and presentation skills
  • Excellent branding knowledge
  • Self-starter, able to work on own initiative with minimum guidance
  • Psychology or occupational health or mental health and wellbeing qualifications / training
  • Technical background in customer research or analytics

    Experience

  • Experienced across all aspects of marketing and event mix with a demonstrable track record in developing multi-channel campaigns to deliver commercial, brand and campaign objectives
  • Excellent commercial acumen
  • Strong creative and design management skills
  • Strong data, measurement and analytical skills
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of digital communications and how to get the most from these channels
  • Strong effective communicator
  • Good teamwork skills with the ability to work as part of broader marketing and communications functions
  • Results oriented with demonstrated ability to continuously improve methods, approaches, and contribution. Commitment to continuous learning
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to use customer insight to inform customer-focused campaign development
  • Demonstrated ability to see the big picture and provide useful advice and input across the business
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment of constant change
  • Experience leading marketing activity in not-for-profit and commercial environments
  • Google Analytics, Marketo and Salesforce experience a distinct advantage
  • Experience in a membership organisation.
  • Experience at successfully entering and supporting growth in new international territories and industry sectors.
  • Experience at launching new products/services from concept to growth
