Working Hours: Core working hours are 16 hours per week which are to be worked on a

Fixed term: 12 months, but subject to extension by
mutual agreement.

Salary: £12.00 per hour.

Location: The principal place of work will be your home and at the St Andrews
Preservation Trust’s Museum at 12 North Street, St Andrews, KY16 9PW.

Date of Appointment: The effective date of appointment is 4th March 2024.

Closing date: 5th February 2024, 5pm.

About the role

The Trust is currently planning for the major redevelopment of its museum (St Andrews Heritage Museum & Garden) to improve the visitor experience, to re-display more of its important local collections, and to create deeper links with the local community in St Andrews. This is an exciting time to join the team which includes an enthusiastic volunteer workforce. The Apprentice will play a key role in enhancing digital engagement.

The Apprentice must be in post no later than 4th March 2024. The Apprentice will report to the Museum Manager and be supported by both the Museum Manager and Project Outreach Officer. The Apprentice will be appointed a Supervisor from MGS who will provide support in completing the qualification element of the Apprenticeship: Digital Marketing SCQF level 6 – SQA.

To be considered for this position, potential candidates must be aged 16+. The position is not open to recent graduates or current Marketing Students.

Job Description:

Hours of Work

  • Core working hours are 16 hours per week which are to be worked on a
    flexible basis.
  • As a rule, the hours will be worked between Monday and Friday.
  • In addition, there will be occasions outside these hours when you may be
    required to be available – Charity Trustees’ bi-monthly meetings and events /
    exhibitions organised in connection with the Trust.
  • Additional paid hours will only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.
  • A log / diary of duties and activities undertaken, and time allocated are to be
    recorded for monthly presentation to the Museum Manager.

Location

  •  The Charity Trustees will inform you in advance of there being a requirement
    to work at other locations.
  • IT and mobile phone equipment together with supporting items, will be
    provided by the Trust as required.
  • When working from home, it is understood that the safety and well-being of
    the employee is the responsibility of the employee and not the Company.

Duties

  • The Digital Apprentice is responsible for many of the public, digital faces of
    the Trust.
  • The duties include a wide range of tasks relating to the Trust’s digital
    presence, and shall include, but will not be limited to the following:

Social Media

  • Implementation of the social media strategy.
  • Coordination of social media engagement and posts, including:
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Analysis of social media engagement
  • Interaction with Trust Members, volunteers and the public
  • Email correspondence with Trust members and volunteers, as and when required.
  • Collaborating with volunteers to create interesting content for the Museum website.

Trust and Museum Website

  • Development of both the Trust and Museum website, ensuring
    content is up to date.
  • Development of the existing online shop, uploading pictures and information of products using WordPress.
  • Working closely with the Museum Design Team and external designers to update the museum website so that it aligns with the redeveloped museum and its exhibits.
  • Creation of blog content for the Museum website.
  • Collect feedback to monitor the suitability of Trust and Museum websites.

Events

  • Assist with the online and, when appropriate, in-person, promotion of
    Museum events.
